Turning this into an “Editorial Game”

Some of my favourite category of games are editorial. I’m not very game and gaming savvy so I might be inventing a term for something that has a name, but basically, editorial games are ones where someone has to curated each play experience. A lot of “daily” games are like this. Think newspaper games like crosswords or online games like Timeguessr or RealBirdFakeBird. In the age of the LLM, this curation can be outsourced to the machine, but I think the categorisation is still useful. I think 8Words is in a similar bracket. In my MVP, I foisted the responsibility of coming up with words onto the players, but that makes the set up for the game really really long, while forcing it to be a two player game. So I’m going to change the flow significantly. I’m planning to create sets of linked words, perhaps one per day like the old newspaper games, which can then be played either individually or in a race with someone else. Still figuring out the quirks of what the multiplayer mode will be, but single player mode already promises a huge improvement.
